"oh my gosh. exactly, what i have been looking for... for years!!!"

한번 올려봅니다.

저 처럼 타국분들에게 알리고 싶었는데 못 알리신분들은 이거 읽어보시고

꼭 여기 저기 알리세요~

모두 좋은 하루되세요.

The Pure Heart of the Korean Language

The word jeong () is an extremely difficult word to translate from Korean because it embodies one of the most striking personality qualities of the Korean people. Usually translated in English as affection, sincerity, or devotion, it is also used as a suffix for the words friendship, ujeong, and love, aejeong. However, it is the etymology behind jeong that best illuminates the true meaning behind this very important cultural characteristic. The word is derived from the Chinese character, which itself is composed of two radicals, meaning heart, and blue. Since the color blue is often associated with purity in Korean, much like the color white is in English, the word jeong can then be translated as pure heart, which is fitting because Koreans pride themselves on cherishing friends and loved ones with a pure heart.

The best metaphor surrounding jeong has it that when a friendship blooms between two people, it is similar to water rising to the surface of a beach. Whether the relationship is platonic or romantic, the water never rushes to the surface too quickly; instead, it comes up slowly, thoughtfully, patiently. That, in essence, is jeong.

Koreans pride themselves on being a kind, warm-hearted people. While it is true that cultures the world over value friendship and love, in Korea the two concepts have their own cultural flair within the word jeong, making it one of the most meaningful words in Korean.
